Step 3 — Buy crypto with real money
Beyond the in-app purchase: Coinbase, MoonPay, Kraken, Bitvavo, Revolut — how to turn euros, pounds or dollars into SOL and get it to your wallet.
Two ways to buy
You already saw the fastest route: buying SOL inside pump.fun with Apple Pay or card. That is great for your first purchase. Once you are buying larger amounts, an exchange is usually cheaper and worth the extra step.
Exchanges have lower fees because you fund them with a bank transfer. You create an account, verify your ID, deposit your local currency, buy SOL, then withdraw it to your Phantom address.
Pick an exchange for your country
- US: Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini.
- UK: Coinbase, Kraken, Revolut.
- EU: Bitvavo, Bitpanda, Kraken, Coinbase — SEPA transfers are usually free and cheapest.
- Elsewhere: Binance, Bybit or OKX where they are available and licensed.
- Fast alternative: MoonPay and Coinbase Pay, the same providers built into pump.fun and Phantom.
Withdrawing to Phantom without losing it
This is the step people fumble. When you withdraw, the exchange asks for an address AND a network. Choose Solana. If you pick the wrong network, the coins are gone and nobody can recover them.
- Copy your Solana address from Phantom (never type it by hand).
- On the exchange choose Withdraw → SOL → network: Solana.
- Send a small test amount first, around $5, and wait for it to land.
- Once you see it in Phantom, send the rest.
Fees and expectations
Card purchases inside an app cost more than a bank transfer to an exchange. Both are fine. What matters far more than a 2% fee is not sending SOL on the wrong network and not buying more than you can afford to lose.
